Terms & Privacy

Last updated: August 21, 2026

These Terms & Privacy explain the rules for using Spritesheet Generator (the "Service") and how we handle your data. By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Who operates this site

Spritesheet Generator is operated by Dennis Postma, who is also the data controller for the purposes of the GDPR. Contact: [email protected]. More about the site and its author on the about page.

Terms of Service

1. Use of the Service

Spritesheet Generator is a free, browser-based tool for creating, editing, and exporting sprite sheets. You may use it for personal or commercial projects. You agree not to misuse the Service, attempt to disrupt it, or use it for unlawful purposes.

2. Your content

You keep all rights to the images and sprite sheets you create. Editing happens locally in your browser, and files you work on privately are not uploaded to our servers.

Publishing to the community gallery is different, and optional. If you choose to publish, you grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, host, display, and promote that content within the Service. You also grant every other user of the Service a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to download, use, modify, and redistribute that content for any purpose, including commercial projects, with no attribution required. That grant survives removal of the asset and deletion of your account, because others may already have relied on it.

By publishing, you confirm the content is your own original work, or that you otherwise hold the rights to release it on these terms. Do not upload material belonging to someone else, including sprites, characters, or artwork taken or derived from existing games, films, television, or other published works.

3. Using content from the gallery

Assets in the community gallery are free to download and use, including in commercial projects, with no attribution required.

Gallery content comes from users, not from us. We do not review uploads for ownership or originality, and we make no warranty that any asset is free of third-party rights. If an asset appears to be based on an existing character, game, or other published work, the uploader had no right to release it, and the license in section 2 gives you nothing. Checking that an asset is safe for your project is your responsibility, and we accept no liability for claims arising from your use of content published by another user.

4. Removal and copyright complaints

We may remove any upload at our discretion, and we remove content promptly on a credible complaint from a rights holder. Send complaints to the address in section 12, identifying the asset and the work it infringes. Repeated infringing uploads will cost you access to publishing.

5. Disclaimer & liability

The Service is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for any loss of data or damages arising from use of the Service, including loss of gallery uploads. Save your work locally and regularly.

Privacy Policy

6. Data we process

Sprite sheets you edit privately are processed entirely in your browser and are not uploaded to our servers. If you publish to the community gallery, that image and the title, description, and tags you give it are stored on our servers and shown publicly alongside your account name.

Otherwise we only receive personal data you actively submit, such as your email address when you create an account, subscribe to the newsletter, or contact us.

7. Local storage

We use your browser's Local Storage to save your preferences (such as dark mode and grid settings) and to keep you signed in. This data stays on your device.

8. Cookies, advertising & analytics

This site is monetised with advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or to other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

The vendors and networks that may set cookies or process data on this site are:

  • Ezoic - ad serving, testing, and the consent management platform shown on this site. Ezoic's advertising partner list is available in the consent prompt.
  • Google (AdSense / Ad Manager, served through Ezoic) - ad selection, delivery, and reporting. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
  • Google Analytics - aggregate traffic measurement.
  • Rybbit, a self-hosted analytics instance on our own infrastructure - page views and error reports. No data is sold or shared with advertisers.

You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time:

Visitors in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland are asked for consent before any personalised advertising or analytics cookie is set, and non-personalised ads are served if you decline. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the editor itself keeps working without them.

9. Legal basis (GDPR)

For visitors in the European Economic Area and the UK, we process data on the basis of your consent (for cookies, advertising, analytics, and gallery publishing) and our legitimate interest in operating and improving the Service. You can withdraw consent at any time through the Ezoic consent prompt or by clearing cookies in your browser.

10. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. To exercise these rights, or to request deletion of your account, email [email protected]. Requests are answered within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

Deleting your account removes your personal data and unlinks your uploads from your name. It does not revoke licenses already granted under section 2, and it cannot recall copies other users have downloaded. If you want a published asset taken out of the gallery, ask and we will remove it.

11. Changes

We may update these Terms & Privacy from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated terms. Changes to the gallery license in section 2 apply to content published after the change takes effect.

12. Contact
